English Springer Spaniels

English Springer colour schemes generally consist of a three colour make-up being black and white, dark brown (called liver) and white, the third and less common colour combination is what is known as a tri-colour being a mix of black, brown and white.

A member of the spaniel group the ‘Springer’ as it’s also referred is a traditional English hunting dog or more specifically a gun dog. They are hard working, intelligent dogs often working in the field, flushing out game all day without loss of enthusiasm. When trained they will quarter the area close in front of the hunter locating (but not chasing) game birds in order to raise them to be shot. English springers are accomplished swimmers and enjoy retrieving from lakes and rivers as well as on dry land.

Not only are they bred for a working life, the English Springer makes an ideal family dog who will be comfortable around children as well as other pets.

The English Springer is born a natural worker who has plenty of energy, they therefore are playful by nature, as well as friendly and constantly eager to please their master. An intelligent breed they are keen and quick to learn and can be trained without too much a problem. Maturing at the age of two they will continue to develop skills and obedience to this age and then to a lesser degree beyond 2 years old. Not known as an aggressive or dominant breed they make ideal house dogs (they do need plenty of daily exercise) and are very tolerant of children and other pet animals.
